5 stars (The guide for all) - I first used this as a high school student then later at university doing engineering. It's so worn it's due for replacement. Handy size, useful tools, practical. 5 stars (Extraordinary book) - Peopleware is a book that needs to be read by ALL people related to software development; not just managers and developers. It has created plenty of debate between people in my company because of the 'saving on space' issue; also, some people from my company doesn't yet understand why a developer cannot be treated like a soldier (strict regime); this book helps out to understand such issues (and much more!). Also it has been written in a pleasant and fast way to read. ??Excellent piece of work! The remaining only issue: It doesn't talk anything about the process of selling. Eventhough it's not a 'Sellingware' book, I think it deserves one chapter, just to create a link with the people that are in charge of generating money to support the 100 square feet that each programmer needs. 5 stars (A must read for any Manager.) - This a great book. You will learn without knowing you learned. Stop wasting time reading reviews. Buy the book and read it! 5 stars (Must have if you are a software pro) - Get this book, and read it MANY times, over and over again. If you are a developer, use it to put some ideas to your manager's brain. Try suggesting various ideas. Try lending it to him (I lost a copy of mine that way!) If you are a development manager, try to turn as much as possible from what it says from theory into practice. It will only make everybody's lives much much more productive and happier. ... 4 stars (Very useful + PMBOK must - Passed exam) - Yes this book is good. But ONLY in conjunction with PMBOK guide. The Inputs/Tools/Outputs are not that intuitive in Rita's book. I had several questions that I could answer only with PMBOK's knowledge. 5 stars (Easy to Understand) - Good study guide that is easy to read. Nice sample questions at the end that can help prepare one for the exam. 4 stars (Found it very useful for PMP Prep) - Initially I did not buy this book when I was starting PMP preparation. When I heard about the Book and CD in many forums, I was curious to try it out. The book and CD together turned out to be very useful, even through I wouldn't say those were essential for my prep work. The CD comes with 1300 questions, which gave a whole lot confidence after trying out. The prices are bit high though. I also used Andy Crowe book and lots of reference on PMI web site. I passed PMP with an overall score of 82%. ... 5 stars (Fantastic Resource for PMP Preperation) - After an aggressive 2-week period of study and preperation using Crowe's book as one of my two primary resources, I took and passed the PMP exam. I didn't crack the PMBOK, nor attend corporate training "boot camp" courses. My study plan went like this: Read "PMP Exam How to Pass on Your First Try" thoroughly and in order; took all post-chapter quizzes and tracked those scores; took final practice exam. I then read Tony Johnson's, "PMP Success Series: Certification Exam Manual (6th Edition)" and used the same formula (this book is more thorough than Crowe's but I found it tended to delve so deeply into the detail of the processes, that it often came at the expense of the "why?" which can inhibit your ability to grasp the entire framework; also the quiz questions were not quite as close the what I found on the real PMP as Crowe's book. Then, I went back to the Crowe book (which I had decided was my favorite by now), and began carefully reading through it again, paying special attention to the nuances and how each process fit within the overall framework. For more detail, I refered back to Johnson's book, which again, is a very valuable source expecially for specifics around tools and processes and I highly recommend it as well. Note that I purchased and browsed a couple other PMP study aids, but found those sub-standard by comparison. Learning the same materials from a variety of views is sound instructional theory, so I would suggest others apply a similar reasoning for a more comprehensive study plan. But if I had to only choose one, I would give Crowe's book the nod over any others because of it's ease of reading; it's ability to draw the entire PMI framework together and most importantly, the excellent practice questions (including the practice exam) that most closely matched the look and feel and difficulty level of the real exam. Note that the fastidious explanations of why each answer was correct or in... 4 stars (An active project manager ..) - Well - the book is good, provided you're an active project manager doing stuff day-in, day-out and wanna improve on few things here and there, looking for new processes or a way to understand what I am not doing correct here. Basically - I would recommend this book to such a person as more or less a hands-on restrospective guide to understanding what can be done better. Why 4 stars: I found quite a few chapters to be pretty useless. The good chapters - are really, really good. Concise, precise information - good. But you can safely skip through a large portion of quite a few chapters. Finally - (not me) but any readers thinking of a PMI and wants to purchase this book - stay away. This is NOT certificate oriented; this is a pure practical pratitioning people's guide and reference. 5 stars (Teams Matter) - As a communication trainer, I found this book to have the best written section on communication, leadership and teams that I've seen in all the project management books I've read. I especially appreciate the over-arching framework of the way Mr. Verzuh ties the need to build an effective team into project management success, pointing out that managers are unlikely to be evaluated on their teambuilding talents (or rewarded for them), but that their success depends on it. Great stuff. 3 stars (Okay--but overrated because ignores its source.) - Really, the first and better introductory PM book was The Complete Idiot's Guide to Project Management by Dr. Sunny Baker and contains better humor and more real world experience, especially the second edition, available for download. The third edition has more information for those interested in PMI certificates (which I think are not as important as some think--but it was added to the third edition which I admire.) Really. Try the Complete Idiot's Guide to PM, in spite of the title. I know, you don't want it on your desk. But Baker's earlier works (On Time On Budget and then the late... 5 stars (What a Phenomenal Job!) - I read construction funding, prematurely perhaps, as one of my first ever real estate books - and I loved it! The book takes the reader through several once-real-life scenarios and explains the construction process step by step. I think that both ambitious beginners and more seasoned loan officers and developers would benefit from reading this book. 5 stars (MBA student) - Very interesting? book; very easy to read. As a small real estate investor I found it very helpful in understanding many of the ins and outs of real estate and financing, especially on the scale i would like to grow to. 5 stars (A first class book on Real Estate Development) - The third edition of Construction Funding by Nathan S. Collier et al is a remarkable demonstration of insight and expertise. Collier and colleagues provide an exceptionally lucid description and analysis of the process of real estate development that is accessible to non-experts while being authoritative at the same time. In addition to being an excellent text for students and others interested in careers in real estate development, this book serves as essential background for all those whose responsibilities include any part of the development process. ...
