2 stars (Slow and difficult to learn) - I purchased Finale Guitar to finally get onto paper all of the hundreds of guitar arrangements I currently play from memory. It was a reasonably priced non-shareware guitar notation program so I thought it would be better. Well after using the program for several months, I am still having to go to the help files just to do the simplest of tasks. First of all I am a computer programmer, so I regularly learn and use all sorts of computer programs. I understand that everything has a learning curve, but this program is very frustrating in that it is not at all intuative. The main frustration comes from the fact that EVERYTHING that should be simple and out front or copy/pasteable is buried in a menu and dialog box somewhere. Also not all of the objects on the page can be simply "copied and cloned", then properties of the copied item changed, like a word processor. Even selection of things to be copied often requires some special dialog to copy it in a certain way. In other words if you are expecting to be able to put a chord on the page, then copy and paste it 20 times and simply change the attributes of all your copies to new chords, you are out of luck, you will basically have to do each from scratch. Also if you need to change the key without transposing the notes you are out of luck. Most operations cannot be done with copy/paste, you must go through all the gyrations of buried menus over and over, not much of just right clicking to get a properties window that does what you expected. It appears that they tried to simplify things by forcing you into a 'mode' for every separate operation rather than just picking one simple sequence that people understand and making all operations conform to that. I was not looking for a program to do midi playback/creation I wanted an easy and powerful notation program to get stuff on paper, so I am not reviewing the sound/midi aspects. This may be powerful but it's difficulty and ... 5 stars (Quick start for beginning guitarist) - I found this to be a very good teaching tool to learn to play rock style music. I have never played the guitar before only the violin for eight years while in school. Now I am in my thirties and thought it would be too difficult to learn to play. I have been through the first four lessons and so far it is great. I can work at my own pace, repeat sections I find difficult and play actual songs with lyrics. It is great to play real music not just practice the chords and riffs (although practice is required, it is just more fun). Great piece of sofware. I combined this with a couple of books to study when not at the computer and this worked great for me. Great job eMedia. I look forwrard to additional eMedia song books for rock music. 4 stars (Great so far!) - Though I've odered many times with Amazon, this is the first time I have been excited enough to review a product! I'm an adult who wants to learn guitar for fun and didn't want to play "Mary had a little lamb" and scales for months. I have only used the software for about an hour, and have already been playing parts of songs I actually like! I have been playing guitar for a total of one week prior to receiving this (without any instruction). This is perfect if you don't have the patience or desire to learn the traditional way. I wish I had this when I was 14, I would have loved it. I can't vouch for the whole thing yet, since I've only played with it for an hour, so I give it 4 stars instead of five. From what I've seen I have no reason to expect that it will let me down and highly recommend it. ... eMedia :: Apreciation :: Instrument Instruction (Instruments) :: Midi :: Sequencing :: Creation :: audio :: Music :: Computer software (programs) :: :: eMedia Rock Guitar Method
4 stars (Very good, but beware of installation) - This Guitarport-Rifftracker setup is a really elegant piece of work. The Guitarport element lets the guitarist emulate a near infinite number of sounds produced by pre-amps and some of the most popular guitar amps and cabinets produced over the last 50 or so years, not to mention the tweaking you can achieve with the virtual preamp and effect settings. The Rifftracker element of the package offers basically a full service recording studio that ties into the Guitarport applications. You can even do rhythm tracks with simulated percussion. The integration of both halves of this package is one of its strong points, as anyone who has tried to mix and match recording sofware with another application that does what Guitarport does can attest. But you might have problems installing the software, as I did with Windows XP. After going through the installation process with no problems, after rebooting the system Windows didn't recognize the new hardware (Guitarport). Windows posted the pop-up window that mentioned this, and a telltale sign was that the green light on the Guitarport hardware, connected to the USB port, didn't light up, remaining red. If this happens to you, things that Guitarport will suggest will be to (1) unplug and replug the USB cable, (2) reboot the computer, (3)reinstall the software. After trying all these, I found nothing worked. So here's what to do: keep the installation disk in the CD drive, reboot the computer, and when Windows indicates that it has found new hardware, click on the option to have it search for installation software, and direct it to the CD drive. Once you do this, some residual software will hopefully load, and you can continue with the registration and initiation process for the package. After that, things should work normally. Like I said, this is a really elegant package that every guitar player will enjoy. ... 5 stars (Guitarport is not perfect, but great for what it is) - Reading some of these reviews reveals to me how uneducated some folks are when writing reviews. I've had Guitarport for almost 2 years and it's the best bang for my buck purchase I've ever made on musical equipment! I am a novice-to-intermediate player (learning on and off for 10 years). This thing is not for advanced gigging musicians. If you are that advanced, then you won't like the sounds as much. They are a simulation of the real thing, not the real thing. But it's close enough for me. Anyone who is a beginner and want's to learn, this is a fabulous piece of equipment. It's way cheaper than buying amp(s), effects, and microphones. It's great for people like me who aren't experts at tweaking and tuning and amp for a particular sound. Load it up or set one and save it. You can get a wide variety of sounds from it and you can experiment with different effects without spending the cash. I like the headphone use too. For recording - it's not really designed for it, but you can do it with other software/equipment. It's flexible and upgradeable. I like the tuner, metronome, noise gate and the ability to save sound settings to use again later. You can add a midi controller pedal and control the wah and volume effects, as well as, trigger changes in amps, effects, etc. Add software and you can record music. Riffworks is supposed to be an easy to use guitar-centered recording software package. It's for laying down ideas, not putting out masterpieces. And it's $99 for crying out loud! How many guitar effects do you see out there for less that does so much?!? Guitarport Online - I think it's great for the beginner/intermediate player who want to learn more. You can play along with some classic songs with a backing band! I can play the role of Jimmy Page in a Zeppelin song. That's cool! There are lots of lessons available as well. Way cheaper than personal guitar lessons. Regarding access to songs withou... eMedia :: Apreciation :: Music :: Computer software (programs) :: :: Line 6 Guitar Port
5 stars (Mesmerizing!) - There is simply no better way to learn these songs. You can isolate different sections of the music and loop them over and over (both the audio and the tab/notation). You can even slow it down. The animated fretboard is also very cool. It plays the notes in time with the music. It even bends the notes. I only wish they'd make more. 2 stars (Poor user interface, technical problems) - I spent about an hour getting this to work correctly. I am disappointed with the interface and the lack of lesson information. Not a bad product but there are better guitar programs for sure 4 stars (Great fun but not for beginners) - This is a wonderful CDRom. The songs are mighty enjoyable, and eMedia lets you see exactly how the blues greats created the toe-tapping music that they did. But be warned: learning to play these songs using the eMedia system isn't for rank beginners. I'm a classical guitar player with over a decade of playing experience, and I had to slow the songs to less than half their speed to even have a fighting chance of keeping up. You're expected to already know some blues techniques and have some accessories (e.g. a glass slide). Eventually, I know I'll get the hang of these songs and have a great time. But it's gonna take practice, practice, practice. ... eMedia :: Instrument Instruction (Instruments) :: Music :: Computer software (programs) :: Mac Macintosh Machintosh Apple :: :: eMedia Blues Guitar Legends

5 stars (I had to respond) - I've got to say that this unit works perfectly with my wife's powerbook. Unlike other posters, I had NO problems with it at all on my G5 at work, my G4 at home and her powerbook. The sound is fantastic and it works really well with the Apple audio control program which recognizes it right away. My setup for mic level input includes a professional mic which is amplified by a separate mic amp. The output of that line level amp feeds right into this unit. Additionally, the sound output to my headphones is a step above what is built into my G5. 4 stars (Great unit with the Mac and podcasting) - I have had ZERO problems with this unit. It's plug and play on my Apple G4 tower running OS X (Panther) as well as my PowerBook G4. I use the Fast Track with Audio Hijack Pro, Detour , Soundflower, Audacity and it works like a charm. The only thing lacking is phantom power for a microphone, which I solved with an ART tube preamp which you can get on Amazon for about $50 U.S. 1 stars (Hmmm not quite sure!!!????) - I ve given this 1 star because i cant get it to work properly with my ibook!. Not sure about windows users though. It doesnt work with any of my programs , guitar rig , gt express (which comes bundled with the product!!!!!) and garage band. The company advertises this product as perfect for garageband. I've also read in other forums that the low latency is rubbish. Buy at your own peril!!!!!!!! ...
